Job Description

Position Function

  • This position leads and directs the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs for the Williamsport, PA and Lewistown, PA manufacturing facilities.  

  • Sitting on 62 acres, the total building is 879,000 square feet, manufacturing 4 different types of overhead garage doors.

  • The EHS Specialist / Manager is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of all EHS policies, procedures, and activities in accordance with all local, state, federal (EPA, OSHA, etc.), and OHD requirements to ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Additionally, the position monitors and measures compliance to standards and results of EHS programs / activities implemented.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Proactively develops and administers health and safety procedures and programs and monitors compliance to reduce risks.

  • Evaluates the organizations facilities for safety and health risks.

    • Help ensure that all facilities are inspected for conditions that pose potential safety problems.

    • Ensures that corrective action is initiated by the supervisor responsible for the area, and provides assistance as needed to establish priorities and procedures.

    • Develops inspection policies and establishes regular inspection schedules.

  • Oversees a process and system for reporting, monitoring, and correcting safety problems.

  • Represent the Organizations interests when meeting with representatives of OSHA during formal inspections of facilities and assist in implementing corrective action and follow up with OSHA or other such agencies.

  • Directs and oversees processes and procedures to train, counsel, and advise personnel on safety issues through management safety bulletins, newsletters, memos, formal training, and meetings to establish a proactive approach to providing a safe working environment.

  • Conducts and/or supervises training sessions for emergency preparedness, confined spaces, electrical safety, machine guarding, fall protection, and forklift safety, new hire onboarding among others.

  • Oversee and direct the maintenance of the Emergency Action Plan, and other operating plant contingency plans including fire prevention and procedures for controlling hazardous spills, in accordance with government regulation and insurance company requirements.

  • Oversees maintenance of a complete and accurate MSDS file for ready access.

  • Coordinates and directs the first responder team providing First Aid training as needed.

  • Provides first aid and injury triage to injured employees.

  • Ensure maintenance of environmental records of hazardous waste, air emission permitting, and water pollution discharge, as well as industrial health monitoring and records of employee hazard exposure according to OSHA regulations.

  • Monitors and controls industrial hygiene, which relates to the long-term effects of factors such as chemical exposure, noise, lighting, heat, humidity, and radiation.

  • Ensure a system/program to provide first aid supplies and secure proper medical attention for injured employees.

  • Oversee and direct the safety committee and ensure minutes of meetings are maintained and disseminated to appropriate parties, and that needed corrective/preventative action is implemented.

  • Identifies and manages personal protective equipment needs for the site, as well as evaluates the effectiveness and functionality of required PPE.

  • Serves as the plant liaison to the corporate EHS office for all environmental, health and safety issues.

  • Performs safety validations of all new and/or modified equipment and / or processes.

  • Evaluates and identifies areas of improvement from a safety and health perspective to ensure associate safety.

  • Maintain First Aid and Biohazard kits; this includes ordering of supplies for first aid kits and picking up and disposing of Biohazard waste.

  • Manages Workers Compensation including managing claims, return to work programs, restricted duty and coordinating case management with third party vendors.

  • Attend hearings as needed on workers compensation cases.


  • 5 to 7 years safety and health experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • This is a key position on our leadership team and a proven record of leadership abilities is strongly desired.

  • Ability to provide first aid/triage, administer drug tests and train first responders.

  • Experience in conducting thorough root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions.

  • Excellent communication, presentation and facilitation skills.

  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Excel, HRIS and third party systems.

  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with employees and management.

  • A thorough understanding of federal and state regulations including OSHA, EPA and state and local regulatory requirements, in the state of Ohio.

  • Demonstrated experience investigating and managing injuries, claims and procedure.

  • Paramedic or nursing experience a plus.


  • BS in Health and Safety, Environmental, Engineering, or related field is required.


  • 30% travel may be required.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
