Job Summary:
Is responsible for the delivery of quality patient care within the specialty practice of the patient care unit: Medical-Surgical, Pediatrics, and Remote Telemetry. Care is delivered through the application of the nursing process of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Nursing care considers physical, psychosocial, cultural, age, and spiritual needs of the patient, affecting the healthcare decisions of the patient, and as appropriate with the population served. Is responsible for directing the work of the licensed and unlicensed personnel. Completes annual mandatory training classes and competency testing. Patient and family interactions occur in accordance with the patient experience standards of the institution.
Education and/or Experience:
Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
Current licensure, or temporary permit, to practice in the state of PA.
Current BLS will be maintained.
PA Child Abuse and FBI Fingerprint clearances required.
PALS will be obtained within six months to one year from date of hire and renewed every two years.
ACLS will be obtained within one year from date of hire and renewed every two years.
EKG rhythm recognition preferred, but not required. Completion of EKG rhythm recognition class within six months from date of hire is required.
A minimum of one year of medical-surgical, pediatric, or remote telemetry nursing preferred, but not required.
Certification in Medical-Surgical Nursing is encouraged within two years from date of hire.
For Registered Nurses with less than five (5) years work experience as an RN, a BSN degree is required or enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire date with BSN degree completed within 4 years of hire date is required.
For Registered Nurses with more than 5 years of work experience as an RN in an acute/inpatient capacity, a BSN degree is not required.For current Geisinger Registered Nurses who transfer into this position, BSN degree is preferred.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
